Thiruvananthapuram, October 24:Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday said that ISRO should not insist on setting up its Space Science Institute on the land purchased from a private party as the state Government has promised to allot 200 acres of land for the purpose.

Achuthanandan said he found “no reason” why ISRO was “insisting” on setting up the institute on the 80 acres of land purchased from an individual at Ponmudi near here. The Government was not responsible for the agreement between Xavie Mano Mathew, the owner of Merchiston Estate at Ponmudi, and the ISRO, the Chief Minister said.

The Government was prepared to provide a suitable site to ISRO for the institute, he added.
