Male elephant killed by rival tusker

JALPAIGURI: In a duel over a female, a male elephant was killed by its rival at Neemte Domohoni forest in Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest of West Bengal. Field Director L D Lepcha said the male elephant, which did not have a tusk, was hit on head and abdomen by the rival tusker during the fight on Saturday night near Paro West beat office. The tusker apparently did not want another to come near the female elephant and turned on the other male elephant when it tried to follow the female. The body of the dead elephant was later recovered by forest officials and burnt on Sunday afternoon. Another male had died in a fight over a female elephant 10 days back in the Dooars area.
