NEW DELHI, March 12:With an increasing attrition rate, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has started an international talent hunt for Non-resident Indians (NRIs ) to fill crucial gaps in its scientist cadre.

The research organistaion, which is facing attrition rates of close to 7 per cent, has even taken to video conferencing and electronic interviews to induct scientific talent from abroad.

“Non-resident Indians having relevant qualifications and experience in engineering or basic sciences are being inducted in DRDO under talent search scheme for Non-resident Indians through video conferencing on ad hoc basis,” Defence Minister A K Antony informed Parliament on Wednesday.

However, the hunt doesn’t seem to be attracting much talent as the minister said the recruitment process was repeated 3-4 times a year. Plus, the maximum salary being offered to Non-resident Indians with 12 years of experience is in the bracket of Rs 18400-500-22,400.

“The applications received are processed quickly and they are interviewed through tele-video conferencing by the committee for their quick appointment in DRDO. The process is repeated 3-4 times a year to increase the intake of Non-resident Indians,” Antony said.
