Reshuffle of generals in key Pak Army posts

islamabad, MARCH 24 The Pakistan Army on Monday shuffled commanders of some key formations and appointed a new chief for its medical services following the assassination of the previous incumbent in a suicide attack last month.

Lt Gen Ijaz Ahmed Bakhshi was posted as the Commander of the Lahore Corps while Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed was appointed as Commander of the Mangla Corps.

Lt Gen Shafaat Ullah Shah, the former chief of the Lahore Corps, was posted as Chief of Logistic Staff at the army's General Headquarters, said a release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

Lt Gen Sajjad Akram, the former Commander of the Mangla Corps, was posted as Deputy Chairman of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority. Lt Gen Shujaat

Zamir Dar was posted as Director-General (Weapons & Equipment) at the General Headquarters.

Maj Gen Mukhtar Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Accountability Bureau, was posted in the same capacity in the General Headquarters.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Muhammad Rehan Burney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Surgeon General of the Pakistan Army and Director-General of the Inter-Services Medical Services.

Burney will succeed Lt Gen Mushtaq Ahmed Baig, who was killed in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi on February 25. He was the highest-ranking military officer killed in a suicide bombing. The bomber had struck when the general’s car had halted at a traffic light.
