SHILLONG::Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy said he will invite two members from all political parties with elected members in the Assembly to be part of an all-party committee to evolve a consensus on the uranium mining issue.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Roy said the committee will be formed within two days. He assured that uranium mining in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya will be done only after arriving at a consensus. “The previous committee was constituted a few months before the Assembly election and it could not meet due to poll preparations. I assure the House that the Government would reconstitute the all party committee soon,” Roy had told the Assembly on Thursday. State Mining and Geology Minister Donkupar Massar had earlier told the Assembly that according to the findings during previous official visits to Jaduguda, there were no health hazards due to uranium mining. But he assured that the Government would do a thorough investigation on health hazards and threat to the environment.
