Low-intensity blast rocks Hubli court
Bangalore: :A low-intensity blast rocked an empty courtroom in Hubli City on Saturday afternoon. The blast, which occurred while the first phase of elections in Karnataka was on, left the courtroom in disarray, police and eyewitnesses in Hubli said.
Even as varying accounts have emerged about the nature of explosion, police sources said it was a grenade blast. Although no timer device was found, there have been reports of the explosion being triggered by one. A forensic team from Bangalore has been rushed to Hubli to collect evidence.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class court hall, where the explosion occurred, was scheduled to hear a case against alleged terror suspects on May 12. The case involves 12 persons, including SIMI activist Safdar Nagori and others nabbed in Indore on March 23.
The court hall was closed on Saturday on account of a holiday.
