Even as Congress-led UPA Government won a vote on allowing foreign supermarkets to operate in India, in the Lok Sbha, an elated Union Foreign Minister, Salman Khurshid has called the success of FDI a democratic procedure. Meanwhile Communist Party of India Leader, D Raja called it an enormous moral defeat for the government. The UPA government defeated the motion moved by Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj to halt the decision, as it secured 253 votes against opposition's 218 in the house which strength was reduced to 471 after the walk out on November 5. Senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad questioned Samajwadi party and Bahujan Samaj Party to explain what kind of pressure from the Congress did they succumb to that enabled government to get victory.
