The Shiv Sena today demanded that a memorial of its late founder Bal Keshav Thackeray be constructed at the site of his funeral at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Party leader Manohar Joshi said that he has faith in the state government that they would construct their leader's memorial next to Maratha ruler and cultural icon Chhatrapati Shivaji. Earlier, Thackeray's son Uddhav arrived at the funeral site the morning after the cremation to collect his mortal remains from the ashes of the pyre, to be immersed in the Ganges river as per Hindu religious practice. 86-year-old Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray, was cremated on November 18 at Shivaji Park, where thousands of his ardent supporters bade him a tearful farewell.
