The Supreme Court today freed Pakistan microbiologist Mohammed Khalil Chishti, saying that sentence served by him so far was enough and he can return to his country. The apex court said in its judgment that no further custody of Dr. Khalil Chishti was required. Welcoming Court's decision Union Foreign minister Salman Khurshid said that the judgment was fair, objective and transparent. The bench of Justices P Sathasivam and Ranjan Gogoi said the prison sentence of one year and four months that Chisty had already undergone was sufficient to meet the ends of justice. Dr Chishti came to Ajmer in 1992 to visit his ailing mother. There he was allegedly involved in a brawl in which one of his relatives was killed. Dr Chishti was arrested for murder and last year, was sentenced to life in prison by a Rajasthan court.
