The central government's decision to hike railway fare after almost a decade has disappointed passengers across India, as people refused to endorse the increase meant to rejuvenate the cash-strapped rail system. The decision faced opposition from commoners across the country who are already suffering due to high inflationary prices amid global economic slowdown. Echoing similar sentiments, passengers in Patna stated that there is no guarantee if people would get the benefits that the Railways claim of bringing with the hike. However some passengers advocated fare hike on the pretext that it would bring in much needed modernization in the Railways that is holding the country's growth behind.
