Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that the southern states are performing better than northern states in various sectors. Chidambaram met chief ministers of southern states and heads of public sector banks today in Bangalore with an aim to review the credit needs of the region and the progress of the schemes sponsored by the central government. Chidambaram also said that the banks will ensure that credit flow to the sectors is maintained. Chidambaram further stated that 51 districts in 16 states would be brought under Electronic Benefit Transfer scheme in the first phase beginning from 1st of January 2013.
