Actor Sobhita Dhulipala returns to the screen with a family drama titled Love, Sitara. The film’s trailer, unveiled on Thursday, introduces Sobhita as a girl from Kerala who falls in love with a Punjabi chef, leading them to a decision to marry. However, her dysfunctional family and significant cultural differences stand in the way of their happily-ever-after. Rajeev Siddhartha plays the male lead in the film.

The trailer opens with Tara (Sobhita), a fiercely independent interior designer who never believed in marriage—until she meets Arjun (Rajeev), a passionate chef on the cusp of international success. Their seemingly perfect relationship is tested when a spontaneous marriage proposal arises due to unexpected circumstances. As wedding preparations begin in Tara’s home, intergenerational conflicts and long-buried secrets start surfacing.

Tara grows concerned that her father may be having an affair and witnesses her mother’s silent struggles. With her own dysfunctional family as a backdrop, she fears she won’t be able to uphold her soon-to-be marriage. The film delves into the complexities of modern relationships, the weight of family expectations, and the bravery required to face uncomfortable truths.

Explaining why she took on the role, Sobhita Dhulipala shared, “What drew me to this role is that it’s the story of a girl who finds the courage to shatter her conditioning and be honest to herself no matter what. She is a family girl at heart and will stand for what she believes in, even if it is not easy. There is something dignified, relatable and real in Sitara’s personality that all women connect to. We shot this sweet family drama in Kerala, while navigating some very unique challenges during Covid lockdowns. I do hope this humble, heartfelt story moves you the way it moved the whole of our cast and crew.”

The film also stars Sonali Kulkarni, B Jayashree, Virginia Rodrigues, Sanjay Bhutiani, Tamara D’Souza, Rijul Ray, among others. Directed by Vandana Kataria and produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, Love, Sitara will stream on Zee5 starting September 27.
