Like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Pereplexity and others, Google Gemini has a pretty minimal user interface with a text box at the bottom. However, now that OpenAI’s Sora has topped the Apple App Store in the United States, it appears that Google is planning to give Gemini a visual makeover.

According to a report by Android Authority, Google is testing a redesigned Gemini homescreen with a new Instagram-like scrollable feed of prompts, a welcome message and shortcuts to tools like Create Image and Deep Research.

While the new Gemini interface isn’t live and was enabled by a reverse engineer by tinkering with the app code, some of the examples shown in the images had prompts like “Teleport me to deep space”, “Give me a vintage grunge look” and “Quiz me on basic biology”. Some of these prompts also showcase Gemini’s image generation, coding and other abilities.

With the new scrollable user interface, it appears that Google aims to give Gemini users a sense of what its AI chatbot can do, while also making the app more visually appealing.

But since these changes are currently being tested and were discovered as part of an APK teardown, it is still unclear if the redesigned Gemini interface will be rolling out anytime soon. If the redesigned interface goes live, it might give Gemini a clear edge over other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and DeepSeek, which still have a minimalistic interface.

To give you a quick recap, Google Gemini had grabbed the number one spot on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store India charts last month, a few days after the tech giant had rolled out its Nano Banana editing update, which was reportedly used 500 million times since its launch. Google also announced that it is adding Gemini to Chrome, adding agentic AI capabilities to the world’s most popular browser.
