BJP leader claims Indian cow’s milk contains gold, sparks laugh riot on social media

While one person claimed "another Nobel is on its way to Bengal", some wondered aloud whether thieves should now loot "Mother Dairy booths instead of ATMs".

He also targeted a section of intellectuals who ate beef as a mark of protest, saying they should eat dog meat.

The head of BJP’s West Bengal unit Dilip Ghosh claimed that milk produced by Indian cows contains traces of gold due to which it’s slightly yellowish in colour. Speaking at an event in Burdwan, the leader said Indian cows have a hump and when sunlight falls on it, it produces gold in the milk. The video of the statement has gone viral on social media and is being widely mocked.

“Desi cows have a hump on their back. Foreign breeds do not have humps and their backs are plain like that of a buffalo. The hump has ‘Swarna Nari’. When sunlight falls on the hump, it produces gold. That is why the milk of desi cow is yellowish or lightly golden. It contains gold,” Ghosh said in Bengali.

Speaking about the health benefits of having such milk, Ghosh said, “If one drinks only desi cow milk it is enough for sustenance. There are many religious men who live by drinking cow milk.”

Ghosh isn’t the first political leader to present an unusual argument while arguing in favour of Indian cow breeds or its produce.

Earlier this year, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat claimed that the cow is the only animal which inhales and exhales oxygen, and claimed that breathing problems can be cured by massaging a cow.

In 2016, Shankar Lal, an RSS leader achieved fame on social media after putting cow dung on his mobile phone claiming it would protect him from harmful radiation.
