Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should have declined Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Qaum award.
Had I been in his place,I would have declined it with folded hands even if one person had opposed it, he said, while pointing out to widespread opposition and resentment against the award for Badal.
Amarinder said there were more deserving people like Maharaja Ranjit Singh,Baba Kharak Singh,Master Tara Singh who should have been honoured with Panth Rattan award.
Referring to the slapping incident of an EGS teacher by a local Akali leader and Daula village sarpanch who was arrested and released instantly,Amarinder said this amounted to adding insult to the injury. He also condemned the lathicharge on the teachers who tried to meet Badal during his sangat darshan at Muktsar.
I fail to understand why the Badals are running amuck, getting people humiliated and beaten up, he said, adding this only indicated that they were nearing their political end.
Addressing the Punjab Bachao Yatra rally in Batala of Gurdaspur district,Amarinder said the Congress government will restore free power to dalits and the poor up to 200 units per family which was withdrawn by Akali-BJP and now at the end of their tenure they started giving only 100 units.
He said that the chief minister and his deputy and son Sukhbir Badal were spreading lies that they would provide subsidised aata-daal to the poor and that the Congress will discontinue the scheme of free power to farmers. Let me ask the Badals from where do they get all this aata-daal, he asked.
Amarinder said it was being provided by the Centre and also claimed that it was during his tenure that farmers got free power and the Congress if it comes back to power will continue with it.
Supporting the demand of ex-servicemen for one-rank one-pension,Amarinder said he will personally lead a delegation to the prime minister.
CLP leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal condemned the Akali MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal for not acting immediately when a lady teacher was slapped by a sarpanch of her party. She said this only revealed her double standards.
The local MP Partap Singh Bajwa said on the one hand she (Harsimrat) was claiming to campaign to save the girl child while on the other hand she remained a mute spectator when a lady was being thrashed and manhandled.
Meanwhile,Jaswinder Singh Ramdass, son of former SGPC president S Ujagar Singh, joined the Congress.
Amarinder has no tolerance for opponents
Amritsar: Youth Akali Dal Chief Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday accused state Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh of using indecent language against his opponents.
Speaking after distributing cheques worth Rs 3.70 crore for carrying out development works in Majitha Town,Majithia said: The Captain has no regard for decency and uses foul language against the Badals while playing the politics of mischief and violence.
He has no tolerance for political opponents and wears the specs of ego and indecency. In Punjab, indecency has no place and the Captain must understand this, he added.
