Bhuvana wins girls singles title
Unseeded player Basil Khuma emerged winner in both the boys singles and the boys doubles event to bag a double crown in the Asian Under-14 Ranking Tennis Championships which came to a close at SDS Tennis Academy on Saturday.
First he shocked top seed Anvit Bendre 6-0,6-2 in the boys singles final in style to win the top honours in the event. Later pairing with Dhruv Agarwal he outclassed the duo of Tushar Mandlekar and Rishab Agarwal 6-2,6-3 in the boys doubles final to add the doubles crown also to his kitty. The girls singles crown was won by K Bhuvana. She shocked third seed Rimpledeep Kaur 6-1,6-2 with good ease in the final.
However,Rimpledeep Kaur managed to take revenge of this upset when she pairing with Rajbir Kaur quelled aside the challenge of K Bhuvana and Parminder Kaur 6-4,6-3 in the girls doubles finals. Rimpledeep and Rajbir were the top seeds in the girls doubles event.
This was the third leg of the ranking tourney. Basil is the first player to win a double crown in this ranking championships so far. Interestingly,Anvit has made it to the finals in all the three legs but has lost in the finals on all three occasions,informed UP Tennis Association (UPTA) official JS Kaul. The remaining two legs will be organised at Pune and Kolkata. The Lucknow leg of the tourney was organised by UPTA. President UPTA gave away the prizes to the winners.
