In a bid to help power consuming hand tool units of the state,the New Delhi based Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL)- a joint venture of four public sector units of the Union Power Ministry- has decided to conduct an energy audit of the industry in Punjab. The representatives of the company visited Ludhiana on Friday to start the project survey and will take 6 months to complete the study. Confirming the same,SC Ralhan,Regional chairman Engineering export promotion council( EEPC) said: The department will tell us the different ways to be more energy efficient. The primary objective of this study is to identify fuel consumption,saving potentials which will benefit the end user as well as to mitigate the pollution levels of the State of Punjab. The company has roped in Darashaw Company as its consultant to assist the Punjab Energy Development Agency to prepare a Waste Heat Recovery Potential Detailed Project Reports of selected industry clusters,particularly the hand tool sector. More than 40 hand tool units are operational in Ludhiana alone and in Punjab there are more than 200. We had conducted energy audits on our own and nearly ten forging units had shifted from furnace oil to electric furnaces and even to LPG as well to reduce carbon emissions. Still more efforts need to be done to reduce pollution levels and the audit will give us valuable information to be more energy efficient, Ralhan added.
