Vastrapur Constable Abdul Hala took his son Latif — who was reported absconding in a chain-snatching incident in the city — to the Ellisbridge police station in the early hours of Wednesday.

Hala had promised the police that he will trace his absconding son. Latif was reportedly found near the NID campus on Tuesday.

Investigating Officer Inspector J B Gadhvi said: “He was very angry that both his sons were into criminal activities since long. This time, when we couldn’t find Latif,Hala personally came to the police station and assured us that he will get the accused arrested. He told us,‘I’ll trace him and arrest him’,and he has kept his promise.”

Elsewhere,a policeman posted at Ellisbridge said they arrested Latif from the NID campus as they were aware that he would be coming there.

He said some people wanted to hide Hala’s association with the son and have projected that the two have separated. Meanwhile, the police have recovered one gold chain from Latif and have said more valuables could be recovered post-interrogation. The police have registered a case of theft against Latif and further investigations are on.
