Puneites woke up to a foggy Monday morning. The low visibility in the morning,up to around 8.30 am led to the delay of a few flights and also forced morning walkers to shun their daily routine. Officials from the India Meteorological Department,Pune attributed the dense fog to the decrease in the winds.
The thick fog saw the visibility dropping to near zero in the city, according to the IMD duty officer. Jetlite’s Aurangabad-Pune-Delhi leaving from Pune airport at 11.05 am was cancelled due to the fog, officials said.
Sanjay Katkar,a resident of Gokhale Nagar said,The visibility inthe morning was poor,I was hardly able to see anything. Thus,I did not go out for my daily walk today. On the sudden fog in the morning,A B Mujumdar, deputy director general of IMD,Pune said,The city saw a thick fog today owing to the moisture in the air. There was clear sky condition and moisture in the atmosphere which caused the fog.
The decrease in the winds was also a reason that led to the fog. The north winds, which had led to the decrease in the maximum temperature have become weak now. Because of this, now both the maximum as well as the minimum temperatures will see a rise, added Mujumdar.
The IMD is also predicting that there might be conditions of fog tomorrow as well but much less than the Monday morning fog. There might be fog tomorrow in some patches but it will be less than what it was today, said Mujumdar.
