Dev Patel’s Last Airbender set to hit India

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan,The Last Airbender will be released in India in 3D and 2D format simultaneously.

Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel is returning as a prince in Indian-American director M Night Shyamalan’s fantasy-adventure The Last Airbender,which hits Indian screens on July 9.

Based on the animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender,the film has been produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. The film will be released in 3D and 2D format simultaneously,a statement from the producers said.

Patel,who rose to global stardom with his portrayal of underdog Jamaal in Danny Boyle’s multiple-Oscar-winning film,plays the character of Prince Zuko,a 16-year-old Fire Nation prince in the movie,which also stars Noah Ringer,Nicola Peltz,Jackson Rathbone,Shaun Toub,Aasif Mandvi and Cliff Curtis.

The film is about four nations –Air,Water,Earth,Fire. They are tied together by destiny but things take a bad turn when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others.

A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage,Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz),a Waterbender,and her brother,Sokka (Jackson Rathbone),to restore balance to their war-torn world.
