Expecting a considerable increase in ridership during the upcoming trade fair, the Delhi Metro has decided to run trains at peak hour frequency throughout the day. In addition to this, steps are being taken to ensure crowd facilitation at Metro stations from November 19 to 27,when the fair will be thrown open to the general public.

“Trains will run at peak-hour frequency through the day, from 8 am to 9 pm,with 23 more being pressed into service. These trains are normally taken off during non-peak hours, but they will perform over 100 extra train trips everyday during the fair,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

A total of 43 manual token counters with separate ones for specific denominations and destinations will be put up at the Pragati Maidan Metro Station on all working days. During weekends and holidays, the number of counters will go up to 52. To avoid overcrowding, all tokens will be sold at the ground floor only. No tokens will be sold at the concourse level, officials said.

Additional Customer Facilitation Agents (CFAs) and security guards will be deployed at busy interchange stations such as Central Secretariat,Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate for guiding and managing the crowd in the ticketing area as well as platforms.

At the concourse level,Q-managers will be put for the physical segregation of the commuter entry and exit points. This will help prevent cross movements and crowding near AFC gates. Signs indicating the way to platforms, token counters,entry/exit points, security messages, system maps, fare charts, passenger information, etc, will also be put up at some places.

Meanwhile, the sale of Metro tickets has picked up,officials said. While 1,387 IITF business visitor tickets were sold from Metro stations on Monday,as many as 1,110 were sold on Sunday.

To ensure faster security clearance for commuters, additional door frame metal detectors and x-ray machines will be installed. The average number of commuters visiting Pragati Maidan Metro station during IITF 2009 was approximately one lakh per day.
