Acting on complaints submitted by residents of Sectors 23,24,25,26,and surrounding sectors, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board has pulled up the administration,Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and Municipal Corporation for failing to shift the dumping ground in Sector 23,despite repeated notifications. The board has now directed the bodies to obtain a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and stop illegal dumping of waste in the sector. The area has turned into a health hazard due to incessant dumping of waste. HSPCB has also told these bodies that as per Schedule III of Municipal Solid Waste Rules,2000 regarding specification of landfill sites,it is the responsibility of development authorities to identify such sites and hand over the same to the MC for development, maintenance and operation. The board has also raised objection to the defiance shown by the administration and the development bodies in not replying to the showcause notice issued to them on May 31. The bodies were to submit a reply to the notice within 15 days. HSPCB also raised concerns about epidemic that may arise in the area due to the dumping of waste.
