Garment industry set to use energy efficient machinery

Industrialists in Ludhiana are making an effort to reduce carbon emissions and saving energy.

Industrialists in Ludhiana are making an effort to reduce carbon emissions and saving energy. The data with the Small Industry Development Bank of India (SIDBI) reveals that in last six months,more than 80 industrialists have availed the benefit of reduced interest rates from SIDBI for installing energy-efficient machinery.

Jatinder Aggarwal,assistant general manager of SIDBI,said,“We have 15 pending files. The industry has started taking a step in the right direction.” An exhibition about eco-friendly machines was also organised by JUKI India private limited. The company had eco-friendly sewing machines used by garment industry on display which reduce carbon emissions.

Although these machines are costlier,they are beneficial in the long run,claimed Katsumi Nihei,MD of the company. “Although the beginning is slow,the Ludhiana industry has finally woken up to the cause of environment,” said Aggarwal.
