High expectation to cause Nitish’s downfall: Paswan

“It is a Nitish vs Nitish situation in Bihar today.

The chief minister making a slew of promises would be weighed down by the other CM who is the deliverer of those promises,” the former union minister said.

The LJP chief sought to draw a corollary between the massive win of the NDA in Bihar assembly polls and that of Congress in 1984 Lok Sabha polls.

The charisma of the then prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi had faded in later years of his tenure,the NDA too would soon start feeling the heat of people’s expectation to deliver the goods that it had promised in elections for a second term,Paswan said.

“We will be happy if the state government delivers,but if it failed to do so,the same electorate will start looking for alternative,” Paswan said,adding that the RJD-LJP combine will be there to seize the opportunity for a comeback.

He warned the ruling coalition against undermining the opposition saying RJD-LJP combine and the Congress polled 36 per cent votes as against the NDA’s 39 per cent,though the vote percentage did not reflect in the number of seats won by these parties (29) and the NDA (214).

On the speculation that the LJP was tilting towards the Congress in view of electoral setback in Bihar,he said he had told Congress leaders that he would ideally like the Congress and the RJD-LJP combine to work together.

However,that was difficult to happen till Congress stuck to its position of keeping the RJD at bay,he said.

Paswan,who held a meeting of its 75 candidates yesterday to review his party’s electoral performance,demanded scrapping of polling by the EVMs.

Meanwhile,the LJP president reconstituted various office bearers’ panel of his party and said a 15-member core committee will be set up soon to take decision on major political issues.
