It seems AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi left many questions unanswered at the interactive session with the students on Monday. Many students felt that the questions asked during the session were controlled by the student leaders of NSUI.
Students of SFI and the ABVP rued that they could not get a chance to ask him questions. Student leaders of Indian Students Union (ISU) of Dr Y S Parmar Horticulture and Forestry University,Nauni, were one such lot who went back dissatisfied.
We wanted to raise the issue of the plight of NSUI in the state. It was one of the reasons why we set up a separate students organisation even though we subscribe to the Congress ideology, said Mithilesh Kumar, general secretary of the students body.
He rued that ISU never received any appreciation or help from state Congress leaders and student leaders of NSUI. We wanted to highlight that student leaders have stopped nurturing new talent which is why NSUI has weakened at the university-level.
Another student Megha Chauhan said,I wanted to tell him that I have worked for NSUI for six years but the situation was so hopeless that I was forced to stop party work last year. Had the organisers given us a chance to speak,Rahul would have got an insight into the reasons for the failure of NSUI in Himachal University.
The student leaders have lost touch with the students and are busy pleasing the Congress leaders, she added.
Shikha Chauhan of SFI said,We kept raising our hands to ask questions but NSUI leaders ensured that only certain people got a chance.
National general secretary of NSUI,Ragini Nayak, however, said,There was no deliberate effort to alienate certain students. Since there was a time constraint, only few questions could be accommodated. Rahul also pointed out certain students who raised their hands. There was no plan to divide the students according to their party affiliation.
