The cops on Friday recreated the October 31 accident involving the Range Rover of international golfer Jeev Milkha Singh. Ramkumar, driver of Jeev Milkhas car on the day of the accident, was called by the police to verify his statements and record his movements at the time of the accident. Speaking to Newsline,DSP Kamaldeep said,We are not re-investigating the case as it is already under investigation. All the facts are just being verified by us. Today we called the driver, recreated the scene and the whole event was recorded in CCTV cameras at the spot.
Ramkumar was made to walk and turn the way he had done on the day of the accident. We will compare the old CCTV footage with the new one. The scene was recreated as Sunita Malik, driver of the other car,had alleged that Ramkumar was not the one driving the car at the time of the incident. She had also alleged that she had been booked for no reason.
The body language of Ramkumar is more or less similar to the person driving the car on the day of the accident. Maliks Alto crossed the zebra crossing when the signal was yellow. When the collision took place, the light had gone red, said the DSP.
The police had earlier booked both parties as one was over-speeding and the other had jumped a red light.
The incident took place on October 31,when Ramkumar jumped the red light and collided with Sunitas car coming from the Panchkula side. Sunita and her son Bhanu were injured.
The police had registered a case on the complaint of Dharamveer,an eyewitness in the case. Ramkumar was arrested for negligent driving and endangering the safety of others and released on bail. Sanjeev Dhaiya, husband of Sunita, had earlier asked for the CCTV footage of five minutes before and after the incident and the DDR copy under the RTI Act. He showed footage obtained to UT IG PK Shrivastava.
