England football star David Beckham has told Manchester City fans that their club can never be bigger than Manchester United.
In a wide-ranging interview with Mirrorsport ahead of the Carling Cup semi-final clash between the two teams,Beckham said: City will never be bigger than United. Money does a lot for a club and a team, but being successful and being one of the most recognised clubs in the world doesnt come from the money.
Its about history. There arent many clubs that can boast the history of Manchester United,Real Madrid,Barcelona or AC Milan. Its not about having all the money in the world. All that does is creates attention but you cant buy the history of a club, he added.
I would never sign for Manchester City. Thats mainly because I am a Man United fan. It doesnt matter about money. It is always about loyalty with Manchester United. They are the team I supported and the team that I played for years and I just couldnt bring myself to sign for City. I couldnt do it, Beckham said.
He also rubbished reports of him quitting the sport after this years World Cup in South Africa.
