The Samta Nagar police arrested a conman who allegedly obtained and used credit card details for booking airline tickets and sold them to a travel agency at a discount. The matter came to light when Mahesh Chauhan (44) from Kandivali, marketing director with a private firm, received message alerts from his bank that an amount of Rs 24,000 was deducted from his account on January 31 towards airfare. “Chauhan contacted the call centre of the bank and found that three tickets were booked through his credit card. Chauhan lodged a police complaint with us,” said Assistant Police Inspector Vasant Labdhe.

According to Labdhe, the airport police intercepted the passengers who were to board the flights using the tickets. “The passengers told the police that they had bought the tickets from an Ulhasnagar-based travel agency. The travel agent said that one of their employees Rajesh Patel had arranged for the tickets,” he said.

Patel told the police that he met one Amit Jain (30) who had offered to sell tickets to him at an attractive discount. The police then laid a trap and nabbed Jain from Thane.
