MSU’s Botany dept holds seminar on climate change

The M S University’s Department of Botany on Saturday organised a national seminar on changing environment and resulting shift in ecological balance.

The M S University’s Department of Botany on Saturday organised a national seminar on changing environment and resulting shift in ecological balance.

The seminar was attended by the members of Indian Science Congress (Baroda chapter),Vigyan Parishad (Baroda chapter),Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),West Zone and Indian Society of Geomatics (Baroda chapter).

While the CPCB said more research activities need to be taken up by the university,B R Naidu,its zonal officer,said,“Efforts are being carried out in Ankleshwar,Alang’s ship-breaking yard and other areas to keep the pollution level at its minimum.”

However,N M Bhatt,a speaker,while presenting his paper said,“The rules and laws are in place but their implementation is a failure. The population is growing at double the rate every year but the number of vehicles is increasing 15-fold.”

One of the speakers,Prof VS Patel,said,“The air pollution is a major concern as it is directly affecting the bio diversity. This is also having an impact on people’s health as can be seen from the rise in the number of health-related problems.”

The seminar also discussed on the measures which can reduce the pollution level.

The department also held a stamp collection exhibition on the occasion with professors from the department and other philatelic enthusiasts exhibiting their collections on environment and other topics.
