Private schools not to collect board exam material

Taking a tough stand against the decision of the state education minister, whereby headmasters and principals of government schools will act as examination controllers.

Taking a tough stand against the decision of the state education minister, whereby headmasters and principals of government schools will act as examination controllers during board examinations at PSEB-affiliated private schools, the Association of PSEB Affiliated Schools has decided not to collect material for examination set to be held in March. The decision was taken by the government to curb copying in these schools.

Rajinder Sharma, president of the association, said: “As the board has decided to depute the controller of examination in affiliated schools from government schools,we have decided not to collect examination material for the Boards. Now,it becomes the duty of the controllers to pick up the material.”

He added: “Yesterday,we had submitted a memorandum of our demands to the offices of the education minister and the chief minister. The Association will hold a meeting with the chairman of PSEB,Mohali on February 24.”

“If the government does not withdraw this policy, then affiliated schools will protest. They will not set up examination centres and schools will be closed,” said Association vice-president I M Dutta.

R L Sewak,an office bearer of the Association, said: “All Board and universities pay per candidate for the creation of a examination centre, but the board does not pay anything to these affiliated schools. These have to pay the centre creation fee to the board.”

He added that affiliated schools will not permit private candidate to sit in their centres. Moreover,if the head of the institution will be the controller of the examination,he or she can check students at the entry gate,he reasoned. While Class XII examinations are set to begin from March 11,Class X boards will begin from March 21.
