The minimum temperature dipped to 13.2 degree Celsius on Saturday, welcoming the winter night chill.

The fog in the morning and the cold breeze, the weatherman said, was due to the Northwesterly winds. For the last two days, there has been heavy snowfall in the hills of North India, triggering cold breeze in Delhi.

Director (Forecast) at IMD,B P Yadav, said: “Because of a clear sky,the atmosphere is unable to trap heat, following which we have cold weather. Earlier,Delhi had witnessed Easterly winds because of which the temperature rises.”

While only shallow fog was witnessed on Saturday,at least ten international flights and nine domestic flights were cancelled at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The cancellations pertained to operational delays.

“The delays were either consequential, operational or due to cancellation of slots — or a combination of any of these,” a DIAL official said. Consequential delays,he said, take place when an aircraft arrives late.

Operational delays are due to a change in rotation by a company, shortage of aircraft or crew,or connecting passengers from another flight. Slots are cancelled for not adhering to the process laid down by the DGCA.
