The steal is the title-track,which is RDBs inspired and ingenious re-creation of the cult song that inspired the title,Main jat yamla pagla deewana from Pratiggya. Unlike in some notorious examples in recent times, the films team mentions original creators Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Anand Bakshi as well. Sonu Niigaam is brilliant.
From the rest of the album, however, only Chadha de rang (in four versions) is colourful,in the first version sung by Ali Pervez Mehdi,Mahalakshmi Iyer,Shweta Pandit and Rahul B. Seth, who co-writes the song. Anu Malik writes both the songs he composes Tinku jiya and Chamki jawani but these are familiar folk tunes.
Toonpur Ka Superrhero
T-Series,Rs 145
Roopkumar Rathod and Javed Ali sing one of the finest compositions heard this year Jeetoge tum humko yakeen. Munna Dhiman writes his best song yet and Anu Malik proves that the fire sustains even now, even if he needs weighty situations to be at his best.
The rousing song makes up for mediocre songs like Baliye and Naach mere naal, though the recitation-heavy Rubdoot and the chaalu song Lets go to Toonpur are okay.
Impatient Vivek
Worldwide Records,Rs 125
Yet another of those albums that are only technically Indian, this soundtrack has one saving grace,Meri nindiya udne, sung by Vivek Sudarshan and Tarannum Malik and composed by Raja Ali. Otherwise, this multi-music director and multi-lyricist score has nothing to recommend.
Payback
T-Series,Rs 145
Jaane kab (Vaishali Samant-Ashish Om) is a tepid beginning to a cold album. The tracks drone on and are forgotten seconds after they are over.
